Late again, due to lack of wifi....
So, (was) our last night in NOLA and we think we will leave a little bit of our hearts here.
We headed out to the massive city park today,
to go to the modern art museum and sculpture park.
It was beautiful with tonnes of huge frilly butterflies or "They're F-ing fairies" as Denis described them as they swooped towards him.
It is Mothers Day in the US, so Lou cashed in on her step-mum status and was given free museum entry, offers of free champagne cocktails and greeted by everyone, young and old, like it was Xmas day.
It also meant the park was cook-out central. And we're not talking crappy disposable BBQs with a few token sausages. There were families with full size grills, gas rings with giant boil pots, generators running fans and everyone in their finery.
We then headed to the non tourist neighbourhoods for a visit to Ernie K-Doe's old joint,
now run by Kermit Ruffins. Kermit jammed for a couple of hours

And we had a brilliant time shooting the breeze with locals and others who had tracked down the place. We chatted to the bass player who told us he'd been to the UK in 1984 to play on Top of the Pops, here he is:

There was food on offer, but Unfortunately the advertised pig lips were all out. On enquiring, we were told they were exactly what they sounded like, pickled and green grey in colour. Won't complain about their shoddy stock keeping on this occasion!
It was also some mad bike and slick motor gathering under the freeway, so the streets resembled a Fast & Furious scene. The noise was phenomenal!
On the way back home, local mothers day gatherings were turning into block parties.
Later we headed down Frenchmen one last time for hotdogs
and then attempted to play a final game of pool, despite an insistent cat taking up residence on the table.
So back on the road tomorrow, leaving the jazz behind, as we head to the Natchez Trace Parkway.
We just agreed that we can't sum up our visit to New Orleans, but you definitely feel like you're leaving a party way too early!
